Post-pandemic travel: what now?

In Other / News /

Plans upended, flights suspended, and hotel stays that never were. As borders start reopening, the urge to travel is strong as we want to get out into the world again. But while it’s safe to say that bookings will in increase, what travelers look for has changed with the pandemic. Several trends have been identified by travel agents and actors. Below we present three of our favorite trends.

Reunions

Pandemic restrictions didn’t just affect our work life. It put us even further apart from our loved ones, especially for families spread out across different countries. When the world slowly returns to a more normal state, we want to catch up with those we haven’t seen for a long time, going away with family members or friends and spending time together.

Nature experiences

As the thirst for new experiences beyond the home grew stronger in 2020, many of us started discovering our own countries. Nature became our new favorite hide-away from larger crowds, and hiking was suddenly the hottest ticket. And we don’t expect this trend to disappear any time soon, but for experiences outside the city to keep attracting both new and old faces.

Rösjöstugorna is just one of many who use Happybooking. Their cabins are situated in Fulufjället national park next to Rörsjön and Harrsjön, here you’ll stay with the wilderness right outside the door. From fishing, hiking for beginners, canoeing and more luxurious tents if you want to get even closer to nature, this getaway near the Norwegian border has a real advantage when it comes offering experiences far away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Combining work with vacation

Whether you already had remote work down to a t, or started with a Zoom crash-course, many of us had to adjust to a new way of working. And it turns out that if you have a connection to outside world, working from another city (or country) works just as well as being stuck at the kitchen table at home. With this newfound flexibility, we may start seeing a tourist season that stretches over several seasons. Imaging getting through the workday and immediately afterwards heading out on a canoe adventure, catching tomorrow’s lunch from the nearest stream, or finding a new place to work every day.

The full experience from the get-go

For those eager to experience something new and to immerse themselves in different, local experiences, being able to offer activities during a hotel stay will put hoteliers in the forefront of choices for many travelers. And being able to book those activities before setting off to the airport brings a sense of security, as well as knowing that your adventure is just a car, train, or plane ride away. Happybooking lets guest do just that, with no commission for hotel owners who sell their own activities.
